STU BACK TO WINNING WAYS AT HOME

MIAMI GARDENS, FLA. (March 5th, 2019) – The St. Thomas University Softball Team (12-4) gets back on board with a Tuesday night sweep against the Statemen of William Penn University (7-5) at Col. Jacquelin J. Kelly Field. Game one finished 7-4 and game two ended 6-1.

Game One Notes:

  • The Statemen got on the board in the top of the second off a Bobcat error.
  • STU responded in the bottom half as they score seven runs, off six hits, and three WPU errors.
  • Three back-to-back singles from Santos, Descheene, and Castroman was how the inning led off.
  • An error from the shortstop drove in Descheene from third to tie it up at one.
  • Ehrenthal singled up the middle and drove in Manieri and Castroman to take a 3-1 lead.
  • Delaware drew a walk and with so creative chaos Grafals and Ehrenthal score and extend it to 5-1.
  • A single up the middle by Sands drove in Delaware making it 6-1.
  • As the Bobcats batted around in the inning Santos was hit by pitch.
  • Descheene got an RBI single to right field and drove in Sands to cap off the inning and make the score 7-1.
  • In the top half of the third William Penn scratched for a run making it 7-2.
  • The Statemen scored two more to cut the deficit to three in the top half of the fifth, 7-4.
  • STU was able to close out the game and get back into the win column.

Game Two Notes:
  • In the bottom of the second STU got on the board first as Santos led off the inning with her second triple of the year!
  • Descheene reached on an error that brought home Santos from third and took the 1-0 lead.
  • WPU evened it up in the top half of the third.
  • STU had an explosive four-run third to take a 5-1 lead.
  • Grafals reached on a hit by pitch, Delaware walked, and Ehrenthal reached on a bunt single to make it bases loaded with no outs.
  • A pop out by Sands drew an erratic throw that got passed the catcher and brought home Grafals.
  • Spalding got it done with the bat as she singled and drove in Ehrenthal and Santos, sealing the inning at 5-1.
  • The Bobcats scored a run off a double from Grafals to score Manieri and solidified the game at 6-1.
