KRUEMPEL PINCH HIT WALKS OFF FOR TWO AGAINST ROCHESTER

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (March 7th, 2019) – The St. Thomas University Softball team (14-4) caps off the week with another double-header sweep at The Colonel on Thursday evening against the Rochester College Warriors (0-8). Both games ended early and in pinch-hit walk-off fashion as the Bobcats run-ruled the Warriors 8-0. (game one finished in six innings while game two finished in five innings)

Game One Notes:
  • The Bobcats got on the board first in the bottom half of the first.
  • Three base runners reached to start, Grafals drew a walk, Delaware singled to left field, and Ehrenthal reached on an error by the first baseman.
  • Sands grounded out to the second baseman but picked up the RBI as Grafals scored and took the 1-0 lead.
  • STU extended their lead in the bottom half of the second with a three-run inning.
  • Pla singled to left field and Manieri reached on a bunt single to get the offense started. They both advanced into scoring position off a wild pitch.
  • Grafals recorded two RBI's on a ground out as the first baseman made an error that scored Manieri from second to take a 3-0 lead.
  • Delaware recorded her second of three hits to start a two-out rally that extended with an Ehrenthal single.
  • Sands doubled to left field to bring in Delaware from second and take a 4-0 lead.
  • The Bobcats scored yet another run in the third as Santos singled and then stole second to put herself into scoring position.
  • Descheene came up and singled down the right field line to score Santos making it 5-0.
  • In the bottom of the sixth, STU rallied for three runs to take the walk-off run rule victory!
  • Ehrenthal and G. Santos put on the double steal that lead to an error by the catcher and enabled Santos to score.
  • Sands came up and singled up the middle to bring in from third Ehrenthal.
  • Sands stole second and moved to third on an E. Santos ground out.
  • Kruempel came in to pinch hit and drove in the winning run with a single through the left side to bring home Sands!
Box Score Notables:
  • Bobcats played a clean defensive game not recording an error.
  • STU hit .500 with two outs in the inning and the leadoff hitters hit .667.
  • The Bobcat offense recorded thirteen hits and batted .750 with runners on third and less than two outs.

Game Two Notes:
  • The game was scoreless until the Bobcats struck first in the bottom of the third.
  • Castroman and Pla drew back-to-back walks and moved into scoring position off a wild pitch.
  • Grafals doubled to left center to bring home Castroman and Pla and take a 2-0 lead.
  • In the fourth as Sands double off the left center fence just shy of her first home run of the year.
  • Spalding singled to left field to bring Sands home and make it 3-0.
  • A five run fifth inning helped STU sweep game two.
  • Grafals singled through the left side and showed off the wheels when the left fielder made an error and she advanced to third base.
  • Ehrenthal got a base knock to left field to drive in Grafals, 4-0.
  • Sands hit another blast into left center for yet another double and scored Ehrenthal.
  • Santos with a base hit that scored Sands and she advanced to second with on an error by the left fielder.
  • Kruempel came up to the big state yet again with the pinch hit walk off opportunity.
  • She delivered with reaching on a fielder's choice and errant throw from the third baseman trying to get lead runner Santos rolled all the way to the right field fence and Kruempel turned on the jets to score and walk it off for the second time tonight ending the game in the fifth inning.
Box Score Notables:
  • STU scored eight runs of nine hits.
  • Leadoff hitters .800 in game two.
  • Bobcat shut out the Warriors in both games.
