#6 BOBCATS ESCAPE LIONS DEN WITH WIN

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (April 19th, 2019) - No. 6 St. Thomas University Bobcats Baseball (36-11, 17-5 TSC) won game one of the Sun Conference series and "Battle of Miami Gardens" over cross-town rival, Florida Memorial University (20-23, 8-15 TSC)

Game Notes
  • Orlando Rodriguez (7-1) earned his seventh win of the season, in an uncharacteristic start, allowing seven runs in 6.2 innings of work, while striking out six.
  • STU opened the game with a run in the top of the first, with Urbaez scoring from third on a passed ball.
  • Florida Memorial responded with two runs in the bottom of the first to take a 2-1 advantage.
  • FMU added a third run in the bottom of the second on a RBI groundout.
  • Diaz cut the deficit to one, with a RBI single to left, bringing in Delgado
  • The Lions launched two, two-run home runs in the bottom of the third, leading the Bobcats 7-2 through three innings.
  • STU responded with six unanswered runs, scoring three in the sixth and seventh innings to take an 8-7 advantage.
  • Garabedian scored on a wild pitch; Thompson followed with a double to plate Rivero and then scored on a wild pitch to cut the Lion lead to 7-5 after six innings.
  • The Bobcats reclaimed the lead in the top of the seventh inning, as Garabedian doubled in two runs over a drawn-in infield and a Thompson RBI single.
  • Jason Graña entered the game, in relief of Rodriguez, with runners on first and third in the bottom of the seventh and struck out the first batter he faced, esacping the jam.
  • Graña pitched the final two innings, earning his sixth save of the season, finishing the game with the bases loaded to preserve a STU victory.
