MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (April 5
th, 2019) – No. 10 St. Thomas University Baseball (30-10, 12-4 TSC) opened the Sun Conference series against No. 25 Webber International University (26-14, 8-8 TSC) with a 2-1 victory on Friday night from Paul Demie Mainieri Field.
St. Thomas currently leads the season series, 2-1, against the Warriors as the two Sun Conference opponents met earlier this season in Babson Park, Fla. splitting a two-game set.
The Bobcats were joined by the West Pembroke Pines Optimist Cobras 8U team for pregame festivities and had a ceremonial first pitch thrown out by STU Alum, Jesus Blanco (2008-09).

Game Notes
- NAIA All-American, Orlando Rodriguez (5-1), earned his fifth win of the season, facing off against 2018 Sun Conference First-Team member, Zak Spivy, in a battle of Sun Conference aces.
- Both starters lasted eight innings, with Rodriguez outdueling Spivy. Rodriguez struck out ten Warriors, allowing six hits and only one earned run.
- St. Thomas scored the first run of the pitchers' duel in the bottom of the first inning, as Sergio Lopez hit his team-leading fifth triple of the season to bring in Delgado.
- The score held at 1-0 until the bottom of the fifth inning, when Chris Garabedian lined a single to right field to bring in Delgado once again, extending the lead to 2-0.
- Webber scored their lone run of the contest in the top of the eighth inning on a RBI double, cutting the deficit in half at 2-1.
- With the game hanging in the balance; Rodriguez faced a bases loaded, two-out situation in the top of the eighth inning. Rodriguez finished the inning and his evening with a strikeout to escape the jam and preserve the lead.
- Tyler Morales entered the game in the top of the ninth and recorded one strikeout while leaving the tying run on third base, to earn his second save of the season, preserving a 2-1 Bobcats win.
