RELENTLESS BOBCATS POWER THROUGH FOR A 10 INNING VICTORY

BRUNSWICK, Ga. (April 6th, 2019) – The St. Thomas University Softball Team (19-10, 5-8 TSC) took an extra inning thriller against the College of Coastal Georgia Mariners (20-14, 10-5 TSC) in game one of The Sun Conference double-header on Saturday afternoon with a final score of 8-5. Game two of the double-header was postponed to Sunday, April 7th with a start time of 12 p.m.
 
Game One
Starters: Alliyah Sands (SS), GiGi Santos (LF), Melody Grafals (SS), Jordan Kruempel (DP), Nanet Manieri (RF), Alexis Castroman (SP), McKenna Delaware (2B), Emily Santos (CF), Sarah Descheene (3B), Dayma Pla (1B)
 
Notes
  • The pitching combination of Castroman and E. Santos led the Bobcats past the Mariner in the 10 inning match-up.
  • CCG got on the board in the bottom half of the first to take a three-run lead.
  • STU battled back in the top of the second scoring two runs to cut the deficit to one.
  • Kruempel and Manieri singled to start of the rally and moved into scoring position as Castroman moved them over with a sacrifice bunt.
  • Delaware then got an RBI single to right field and created chaos going to second that allowed the second run to score.
  • The top of the third saw the Bobcats tie the game at three as Sands started with a lead off double and later scored on a fielder's choice from Grafals.
  • St. Thomas grabbed their first lead of the game in the top of the fourth as two singles from E. Santos and Descheene got the offense going.
  • Rebeka Ehrenthal came in to pinch hit and delivered off the bench with an RBI single to left field.
  • Three straight shutout innings from Emily Santos on the mound helped them to sustain the lead.
  • Coastal Georgia would tie the game in the bottom half of the fifth at four.
  • As regulation came, the game remained tied and the fans would get some free softball.
  • Extra innings calls for the tie breaker as the last out of the previous inning starts at second base.
  • In the eighth, both teams would take advantage and bring a run across the board to extend the game to another inning tied at five.
  • The ninth was a shutout inning in the run column as Santos left a runner stranded at third by sending the Mariner looking.
  • STU exploded for three in the top of the tenth to take the solidifying lead that was needed to put the contest away.
  • An RBI single from Sands brought home the go-ahead run.
  • Kruempel singled with the bases loaded and brought home another run.
  • Manieri secured the third run with a fielder's choice that brought home the third run of the inning.
  • A one-two-three bottom half closed out the game as the Bobcats picked up their fifth conference victory on the year.
Box Score Notables
  • Bobcats are now 8-3 when recording double digit hits.
  • STU recorded a season-high ten walks as Grafals led the way with four.
  • The pitching staff only allowed seven hits in the 10 inning contest.
#MVBobcats Game Two was postponed after 1.2 innings of play due to lightning and rain delays, it will be continued from where it left off tomorrow with game time scheduled to 12 p.m.
