th, 2019) – For the second consecutive season, third time in the past five seasons and seventh time in program history, the St. Thomas University Bobcats Baseball team is headed to compete in the Avista-NAIA World Series in Lewiston, Idaho on May 24
th – May 31
st.
St. Thomas earned the berth following a 7-5 win over second seed William Jessup University in the Miami Gardens Bracket Championship Game at Paul Demie Mainieri Field.

Game Notes
- Chris Coipel got the starting nod for the Bobcats in the Opening Round clincher, throwing 4.1 innings, striking out four and allowing four earned runs.
- St. Thomas opened the scoring with a sacrifice fly off the bat of Erick Delgado, scoring Joey Thompson.
- WJU took their first lead of the game with a two-run home run in the bottom of the fourth inning.
- Back-to-back doubles by the Warriors, brought in two-runs and extended their lead to 4-1 over STU.
- Joel Rivero entered the game, in relief for St. Thomas, following the second double by the Warriors.
- William Jessup added a fifth run, after a RBI single, taking a 5-1 lead over STU in the bottom of the fifth inning.
- In the top of the sixth inning, Alejandro Rivero hit his fourteenth home run of the season, cutting the Warrior lead to 5-2.
- Garabedian scored in the top of the sixth on RBI single by Mondejar, making the score 5-3. A walk by Lowry, loaded the bases for Jackie Urbaez.
- Urbaez stepped up to the plate, with the bases loaded, one out and the Bobcats trailing 5-3. In one swing, Urbaez launched his seventh home run of the season in GRAND fashion, giving St. Thomas a 7-5 lead.
- J. Rivero pitched through the seventh and handed the ball to Jason Graña in the eighth inning.
- Graña recorded the final eight outs, earning his eighth save of the season as the Bobcats clinched a ticket to Idaho on a fly-out to Daniel Lowry to end the game.
Upcoming
St. Thomas has clinched a spot in the Avista-NAIA World Series and awaits an opponent, following the conclusion of the remaining NAIA Opening Rounds. The Bobcats will play on May 24
th in Lewiston, Idaho.
