BOBCATS FALL AGAINST #4 MBU

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (August 23, 2019) – St. Thomas University Volleyball (2-5) continued play in the 2019 STU Invitational against No. 4 Missouri Baptist University (3-3), falling in three sets (21-25, 11-25, 14-25) on Friday morning from the Fernandez Family Center.

Game Notes
  • St. Thomas opened the match with a 2-0 advantage over the fourth-ranked Spartans, as Bolinger started the first set with a kill and MBU followed with an error.
  • Chenault extended the Bobcats lead to 3-1 with a kill of her own.
  • Alvarez recorded a service ace to give STU a 6-3 lead, the Bobcats largest lead of the match.
  • The Spartans rallied for four consecutive points against STU, as the Bobcats began to trail in the first set at 8-7.
  • No. 4 Missouri Baptist led for the remainder of the set, as St. Thomas could not cut the Spartan-lead to less than one. Ultimately, dropping the set 21-25.
  • No. 4 MBU stormed out to a 12-5 advantage over St. Thomas, as the Bobcats could not rally to keep the score close in the second set, losing 11-25.
  • STU attempted to capitalize on five MBU errors in the third set but fell behind 13-5 before calling a timeout.
  • A Bolinger kill brought the deficit to just one, as several Spartan errors gave the Bobcats an opportunity to get back in the match at 14-13.
  • Six straight MBU points but the set out of reach at 21-13, before STU dropped the contest, 14-25.

St. Thomas University returns to action on Saturday, August 24th to complete play in the STU Invitational with a match starting at 11:00 a.m. against Missouri Valley College from the Fernandez Family Center.
