GIL KEEPS #21 STU PERFECT IN UPSET OVER #9 GGC

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. (September 17, 2019) – No. 21 St. Thomas University Men's Soccer (5-0) has completed the upset over ninth-ranked Georgia Gwinnett College (4-2-2), winning 3-1 on Tuesday night from the Grizzly Soccer Complex.

Bobcat Starters Game Notes
  • Juan Manuel Collazo led an aggressive Bobcat attack in the first 15 minutes of play on the pitch, taking the first two shots of the game for STU and netting his first career goal as a Bobcat in the 15th minute.
  • Collazo finished the opportunity with a header, following a Pablo Gil free kick. The assist from Gil is his second of the season in five matches.
  • In the 29th minute, Gil found the back of the net himself, capitalizing off a corner kick by Joaquin Domber to record his third goal of the season.
  • STU finished the first half with the 2-0 advantage.
  • GGC came out of the halftime break with the first three shots, fresh off the bench, goalkeeper Mike Marx kept the net clean, stopping two shot-on-goal opportunities for saves.

  • Gil added his second goal of the match, with less than ten minutes remaining, to give St. Thomas a 3-1 lead, following another Domber assist.
  • No. 21 St. Thomas finished off the 3-1 upset with the club's traditional stout defense, preventing the No.9 Grizzlies from having any additional scoring opportunities.
