BOBCATS FALL IN TSC PLAY AGAINST GYRENES

AVE MARIA, Fla. (September 25, 2019) – St. Thomas University Volleyball (5-8, 2-3 TSC) was defeated in four sets (23-25, 16-25, 25-19, 21-25) in Sun Conference play against the Ave Maria University Gyrenes (5-7, 2-3 TSC) from the Tom Golsiano Fieldhouse on Wednesday evening.

Game Notes
  • An opening point kill by Bolinger gave STU the first lead of the match in the first set.
  • STU trailed 9-11, midway through the set, before a service error by Ave Maria and back-to-back service aces by Karla Delgado gave the Bobcats a 12-11 lead.
  • St. Thomas trailed 14-17 and rallied for six-of-seven points, led by kills from Kendall Brock, Bolinger and Ty Chenault, as well as a service ace from Amanda Allende gave the Bobcats a 20-18 advantage.
  • The Gyrenes used a timeout to stop the STU momentum and came out of the break with a four-point rally of their own to reclaim the lead at 20-22.
  • Bolinger added consecutive points for St. Thomas but it was not enough to stop Ave Maria from taking the first set, 23-25.
  • St. Thomas held one lead in the second set, before an extended Ave Maria rally of eight consecutive points put the set out of reach for STU, the Bobcats dropped the set 16-25.
  • In the third set, an attacking error by Ave Maria gave the Bobcats their first lead since the first point of the second set, as STU took a 6-5 lead.
  • The lead vanished quickly, as AMU rallied to take a 14-10 lead over STU.
  • The Bobcats rallied for four consecutive points, with Lucia Alvarez leading the comeback effort, as the setter recorded two service aces, tying the set at 16-16.
  • STU closed the set with three straight points, Allende and Sofia Adorno added kills while the Bobcats won the set following an attacking error, 25-19.
  • Kendall Brock capped off a four-point rally for STU in the fourth set to give the Bobcats a 6-5 lead.
  • AMU recorded five straight points, off four Bobcat errors to take a 7-13 lead.
  • St. Thomas could not cut the deficit to less than three points and dropped the match in the fourth set, losing 21-25.
