BOBCATS LOST TO (RV) WILDCATS

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (January 18, 2020) - St. Thomas University (STU) Women's Basketball (7-12, 4-5 TSC) lost to crosstown rival, (RV) Johnson & Wales (13-4, 7-2 TSC) 80-76 on Saturday afternoon from the Fernandez Family Center.

Game Notes
  • Dozier and Brooks converted back-to-back baskets, which gave STU a 5-2 advantage in the opening minutes of the game.
  • Vogel went a perfect 2-2 from the free-throw line, extending the Bobcats lead to 11-4, midway through the first quarter.
  • St. Thomas ended the quarter on a 9-1 run, including a deep Dozier three-point bucket to close the quarter with the Bobcats leading 22-10.
  • JWU began the second quarter with consecutive three-pointers, cutting the Bobcat advantage to 22-16.
  • Patricia Martinez - Sanz scored five consecutive points, and converted an "and-one" attempt to give the Bobcats a 33-24 lead with 3:00 remaining in the game.
  • The Wildcats closed the first half with a 5-2 run, cutting the deficit to 37-33, as the teams went into the break.
  • After JWU cut the STU lead to just two points following free throws, Dozier sank another three-pointer to push St. Thomas ahead 40-35.
  • Halfway through the third quarter, Dozier added another three-point basket to extend the lead to 51-42.
  • Brooks put St. Thomas ahead 55-44, after making two free throws.
  • JWU closed the quarter on a 13-2 run, tying the game as the Sun Conference match-up went into the fourth quarter, tied 57-57.
  • The Wildcats continued their momentum in the fourth quarter, scoring five consecutive points, opening a 62-57 lead.
  • Brooks carried St. Thomas, scoring seven consecutive points to tie the game at 68-68.
  • With less than two minutes remaining in the game, Dozier, Domond, and Brooks all scored points, bringing the game within two at 78-76 with forty-four seconds left.
  • A Dozier three-point attempt fell short as time expired, as the sophomore guard attempted to draw contact and capitalize from the free-throw line. 
  • STU fell short, losing 80-76 and falling to 4-5 in Sun Conference play.

St. Thomas travels to Babson Park to play Webber International on Thursday, January 23, tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. STU can complete the season sweep over WIU with a win, as the Bobcats defeated the Warriors 77-75 on November 23, 2019.
