BOBCATS KEEP ROLLING, BEAT MARINERS IN FOUR SETS

BRUNSWICK, GA. (October 17, 2020) - St. Thomas University (STU) Volleyball (7-3, 5-3 TSC) earned a four-set victory (22-25, 26-24, 25-21, 25-15) over the College of Coastal Georgia (8-3, 6-2 TSC) on Saturday afternoon from the Coffin Gym. STU Volleyball is currently on a six-match winning streak.

Game Notes

  • Bolinger began the match with a kill, assisted by Beecham; However, CCGA opened an early 5-2 lead over the Bobcats once the Mariners got on the offensive. 
  • Back-to-back kills from Chenault and Nunez-Casal tied the first set at 5-5.
  • Three consecutive points by CCGA gave the Mariners back the lead, 8-5.
  • Coastal Georgia rallied for 4-of-5 points, taking a 13-8 lead, as STU was forced to use a timeout. 
  • After the break, the Bobcats were able to control the momentum, with two separate four-point swings.
  • Bolinger and Nunez-Casal notched kills, while Beecham added a service ace to cut the deficit to 13-12 before three consecutive Mariner errors gave STU a 16-14 advantage.
  • Another extended rally by CCGA gave Coastal Geogira a 21-17 lead late in the first set. 
  • STU was able to cut the CCGA lead to two, 24-22, but the Mariners closed the first set with a 25-22 win. 
  • St. Thomas began the second set on a 5-1 rally, led by kills from Allende, Bolinger, and Chenault. 
  • A four-point rally by Coastal Georgia put the Bobcats behind, 9-7.
  • CCGA opened a 15-9 lead, rallying for four-points around an STU timeout.
  • St. Thomas benefitted from five straight Mariner errors, tying the second set at 19 apiece. 
  • The Bobcats closed the second set by winning 4-of-5 points, ending with a second set victory, 26-24.
  • STU maintained the momentum into the start of the third set, leading 5-1, after three straight Mariner miscues. 
  • Allende added another kill, extending the STU lead to 12-8, midway through the third set. 
  • Bolinger notched back-to-back points, forcing a Mariner timeout, as St. Thomas led 18-12.
  • Trailing the Bobcats, 23-21, CCGA made two more costly errors in the third set's final points and fell behind in the match, 2-1, with a 25-21 set loss. 
  • STU started the fourth set with an 8-3 advantage, capitalizing off five Mariner errors.
  • Consecutive points from Bolinger gave STU a 20-12 lead, the Bobcats largets of the match. 
  • The Bobcats earned their sixth consecutive win of the season, defeating CCGA in the fourth set, 25-15.
