BOBCATS STREAK ENDS AGAINST GYRENES

AVE MARIA, Fla. (October 28, 2020) - St. Thomas University (STU) Volleyball (7-4, 5-4, TSC) ended their six-match winning streak in a four-set defeat against Ave Maria (11-3, 6-3 TSC) (13-25, 25-22, 23-25, 22-25) on Wednesday night.

Game Notes

  • Back-to-back kills from Allende and Brock tied the opening set at 2-2.
  • Following an Ave Maria service error, AMU rallied for seven consecutive points to take a 10-3 lead over the Bobcats.
  • Sills and Miranda Dominguez combined for two straight kills to put the score at 12-6 in favor of the Gyrenes.
  • AMU recorded their second rally of at least five points, extending their lead to 18-6 over STU.
  • Ave Maria closed the first set by taking it, 25-13.
  • Trialing 8-4, St. Thomas rallied for eight consecutive points, capitalizing on several Gyrene errors to take an 11-8 lead.
  • A three-point swing by the Bobcats extended the STU lead to 16-13 and gave St. Thomas the momentum to close out the second set, 25-22.
  • Bolinger and Nunez-Casal started the third set with back-to-back kills as the Bobcats began the set with a 2-0 lead.
  • Midway through the third set, Ave Maria led 16-9.
  • The Bobcats rallied to tie the third set, 17-17, as Nunez-Casal collected two straight kills. 
  • STU took a late lead, 21-20, but was unable to maintain the momentum and close the set, dropping the third set, 25-23.
  • Ave Maria opened the fourth and final set with a 5-0 lead.
  • A five-point rally by STU cut the deficit in half, trailing 19-14.
  • St. Thomas could not cut the Gyrene lead to less than two-points and dropped the match in four sets.
