STU COMPETES IN LIFE OPEN AND AGAINST THE CITADEL

MARIETTA, Ga./Charleston, S.C. (November 14, 2020) - St. Thomas University (STU) Wrestling continued the program's inaugural season by participating in two meets on Saturday. The Bobcats split the team and competed in both the Life University (Ga.) Open as well as against The Citadel (S.C.).

Omar Davis earned his first career collegiate win in the round-of-32 defeating Keiser's Burress (12-4) and advanced to the round-of-16 in the 149-pound bracket. Davis fell to the consolation bracket following a loss against Silvestre from Thomas More University. Kevin Augustin beat Speight from Keiser (6-0) in the round-of-16 to move on to the quarterfinal round, where he lost 15-3 against Ugarte, representing Southeastern. Kade Clute was beaten in his round-of-16 match-up, falling to the consolation bracket. 

Edens Valmy moved onto the quarterfinals in the 157-bracket, with a victory in 4:18. 

Brent Becerra and Rivaldo Valmy were both defeated in their matches in the 174-bracket. 

Jesus Perez advanced to the quarterfinals of the 197-bracket, earning a 10-5 victory over Thomas More University's Hardeman. 

Jesus Padron, Jonathan Vil and Myles Janes were all beaten in their first matches in the 285-bracket.

  • Osniel Carnesolta was defeated by Jordie Whtie via fall.
  • Nick Foster lost his match-up against Jake Rotunda, 16-1.
  • Malik Cook-Bey fell in 4:30 against Ethan Willis
  • Drake Campbel was beaten by Selwyn Porter by fall.
  • Daniel Garlin lost in a 9-7 decision against Grant Speer.
  • Caleb Casas was defeated via fall against Dazjon Castro.
  • Cole Griffith fell against Cole Burke.
  • Estaban Hoyos lost via fall against Kyle Kretzer
  • David Alvarez was beaten by Ben Stemmet.
  • Maximo Fernandez lost due to a fall to Michael McAleavey.

St. Thomas competes next against Truett McConnell University (Ga.) on Wednesday, November 25.
