STU HONORS 2020 SENIOR CLASS

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (November 7, 2020) - St. Thomas University (STU) Volleyball (8-6, 6-6 TSC) fell in four-sets (17-25, 25-8, 21-25, 17-25) on Senior Appreciation Day against Warner University (3-7, 2-7 TSC) in the Fernandez Family Center on Saturday afternoon. 

Prior to the game, St. Thomas University Athletics honored five STU Volleyball seniors, Sofia Adorno, Tyran Chenault, Hannah Symonds, Karla Delgado, and Taytumn Schlegel - Ridgway, in a pre-game ceremony.

Game Notes

  • Warner opened the first set on a 6-0 run, as the Bobcats made five errors and were forced to call a timeout.
  • Following STU's timeout, the Bobcats scored five consecutive points of their own, led by two Symonds kills and two Bolinger service aces.
  • WU added another three-point run, taking a 9-5 lead.
  • Sofia Adorno recorded her first kill of the match, bringing the score to 10-9. 
  • Midway through the first set, Warner led 19-13, after their first timeout.
  • Warner ended the set on a 3-1 run, taking the first set win, 25-17.
  • STU opened the second set on a 6-1 rally, capitalizing on five Warner errors.
  • Allende kick-started a 12-0 run by the Bobcats, which featured three service aces from McKenzie Miholer, extending the STU lead to 19-4.
  • Warner made an additional three errors and put St. Thomas on the verge of winning the set, 24-6.
  • STU took the second set win, 25-8.
  • The Royals began the third set with a 7-2 lead over the Bobcats.
  • Halfway through the third set, STU rallied for three consecutive points, capped off by a Chenault kill, cut the deficit to 15-13.
  • Bolinger tacked on another kill, which trimmed the Royals' lead to 19-18.
  • The Bobcats were unable to tie the set, falling behind in the match with a 25-21 third set defeat.
  •  A five-point rally by the Royals opened a 7-2 lead in the fourth set's early moments, which forced STU to use a timeout.
  • St. Thomas was unable to cut the deficit to less than three-points and dropped the match in the fourth set, falling 25-17.
