STU FALLS TO FNU IN SEASON SERIES

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (February 11, 2020) – The St. Thomas University Bobcats Softball Team (0-4) fell to a double-header on Tuesday evening against the Florida National University Conquistadors (9-3) from Jacquelin J. Kelly Field. The Conquistadors took game one 4-2 and game two 7-2.

Game Notes:
  • Rosado got her second start on the year and threw her first complete game as a Bobcat.
  • Florida National jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first scoring two runs off two hits.
  • Guillermo collected her first hit as a Bobcat in her first at-bat, sending a single to right-field.
  • Ashley Rosado would 10 of the next 11 batters from the bottom of the first to the top of the fifth.
  • Uribe tried to stir the pot in the bottom half of the third with a bloop single behind the shortstop and then stealing second base to put herself in scoring position but would get left stranded at third base.
  • The bottom of the fourth was tilted in favor of the Bobcats as McDade roped one up the middle and Colon would reach on a fielder's choice.
  • With runners on first and second none away, the Conquistador's turned a double-play to shift the momentum back their way.
  • FNU added a run in the top of the fifth to take a 3-0 lead.
  • In the bottom half of the fifth Campos got the offense started with a leadoff single to right field.
  • Lishanty Guillermo would continue to collect a night full of first as she hit an RBI-single to right-center to bring in the first run of the night for the Bobcats.
  • Florida National would add a run in the top of the seventh that would solidify their lead at 4-1.
  • STU tried to rally in the bottom half of the seventh as Artiles led off the inning with a single to left field.
  • Ramirez would then bunt her way on.
  • Savvy baserunning got the Bobcats a run, but they would fall short 4-2 in game one.

Game Notes:
  • Abbigail Smith got her first start as a Bobcat.
  • Florida National would once again strike first scoring two runs off two hits and capitalizing on a Bobcat error.
  • In the bottom half of the second, the Bobcats tied the game up at two apiece.
  • Samaniego led off the inning with a single to left field.
  • Pla then came up and delivered a big hit to the left-center gap, Samaniego would score on a throwing error from the centerfielder.
  • Pla would come in to score on a wild pitch.
  • FNU retaliated with three runs of their own in the top half of the third to take a 5-2 lead.
  • In the bottom half of the fourth Pla found her way to first on a base-on-balls and then had a pinch-runner, Kally Martin, come in and steal second base.
  • Martin would get stranded at second base.
  • In the top of the sixth the Conquistadors would tack on two more runs to secure their 7-2 lead that would ultimately be enough to take the second game of the double header and sweep the season series.
