#2 BOBCATS BEGIN TSC ACTION WITH RUN-RULE WIN OVER KU

West Palm Beach, Fla. (February 14, 2020) - No. 2 St. Thomas University (7-2, 1-0 TSC) opened up the 2020 Sun Conference schedule with a run-rule, 13-2, victory over (RV) Keiser University (7-2, 0-1 TSC) on Friday afternoon from Silvester Field.

Game Notes
  • The Bobcat offense wasted no time getting on the scoreboard; following back-to-back hits from Guerra and Rivero, Guerra scored on a fielder's choice, which gave St. Thomas a 1-0 lead.
  • Khawly followed the first run with an RBI single to left field, plating Rivero and extending the lead to 2-0.
  • Keiser tied the game in the bottom of the second inning, scoring their first run on a balk and tying the game on a fielder's choice.
  • Coipel ended the Seahawk threat with a looking strikeout, stranding runners on second and third.
  • The Bobcats got back on the scoreboard in the top of the fourth, Lopez kickstarted the inning with a two-out double, followed by a Guerra walk.
  • Lopez scored during Rivero's at-bat, capitalizing off of a KU throwing error, reclaiming a lead at 3-2.
  • JJ Galvis entered the game in the bottom of the fourth inning for STU and escaped the inning by generating a double play.
  • STU added another run in the top of the fifth inning, scoring on back-to-back doubles from Mondejar and Vazquez.
  • Following a ground ball that allowed a runner to reach third for Keiser, Felipe Soto replaced Galvis and got of the jam by forcing a popout to preserve the 4-2 STU lead.
  • St. Thomas broke the game open in the top of the sixth inning, plating five runs. Lopez began the inning with a lead-off walk; Rivero doubled; Khawly singled to plate the pair and scored on a Mondejar single and the inning ended with an RBI fielder's choice from Lowry. 
  • The Bobcats broke through once again in the top of the seventh inning, scoring four runs - all with two outs.
  • Fernandez revived the inning with a four-pitch walk and Khawly added his third hit of the game to put two runners on base for Mondejar.
  • Mondejar collected his third hit and RBIs of the game by recording his second double, plating both Fernandez and Khawly.
  • Vazquez added the third consecutive two-out hit of the inning, scoring Joel Rivero to give STU a double-digit lead.
  • Perdomo and Lowry also added back-to-back hits, extending the lead to 13-2.
  • Perez Nichols recorded the final six outs for St. Thomas, notching three strikeouts and sealing the first Sun Conference win of the season for STU.
