BOBCATS FALL ON THE ROAD TO #25 WARNER IN MID-WEEK SUN CONFERENCE ACTION

LAKE WALES, Fla. (March 11th, 2020) – The St. Thomas University Softball team (7-13, 0-4 TSC) took a mid-week road trip up to Lake Wales, Fla. to take on conference foe, 25th ranked Warner University Royals (19-3, 4-0 TSC) on Wednesday evening. The Bobcats fell in both contests, 1-0 and 10-2, respectively, from Daly Field.

Game One Highlights:

  • Winter (3-5) got the start in the circle for the Bobcats for the 10th time this season.
  • STU threatened first sparking a two-out rally in the top of the first.
  • Colon and McDade delivered back-to-back singles from the three and four spots in the lineup but will get stranded on the base path.
  • In the top of the fourth, the Bobcats would get a lead-off single from Schmitz, who later stole second to be in scoring position, but would get left hanging 60-feet from scoring.
  • Winter would retire 18 of 23 batters faced after giving up a lead-off single to start the game.
  • The top of the seventh seemed to be rolling in favor of the Bobcats as Hauck singled up the middle.
  • Kally Martin would come in to pinch-hit and would successfully execute what was supposed to be a sacrifice bunt but turned into a single. 
  • The Royals would get out of the jam and would go on to win in walk-off fashion, capitalizing off a Bobcat error to take the victory in the bottom half of the seventh.

Game Two Highlights

  • Smits (2-2) would get the rock for game two as she gathers her fifth start on the year.
  • Warner would jump out to an early 3-0 lead over St. Thomas in the top of the first.
  • The Bobcats would respond with a run of their own in the top of the second, making the game 3-1.
  • Quick fundamental softball after a lead-off walk by McDade set up the sacrifice bunt for Esposito.
  • Uribe would reach on an error and allow for Mcaded to score.
  • The Royals would then bounce back for another five-runs, two in the bottom of the second and three in the bottom of the third.
  • St. Thomas would score their second and final run in the top of the third.
  • Artiles led off with an infield single. Colon would then reach on a hit by pitch to put two aboard.
  • McDade reached on a fielder's choice, and an error by the shortstop led to the second run.
  • Warner would cap off the night with runs in the fifth and sixth innings to run the final score, 10-2.

St. Thomas will stay on the road and play a double-header in Jacksonville, Fla. against Trinity Baptist College on Thursday, March 12th at 5/7 p.m.
