BOBCATS SWEEP SEASON SERIES OVER EAGLES

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (March 12th, 2020) - The St. Thomas University Softball team (9-13, 0-4 TSC) take advantage of being one of few teams in sports, collegiate and professional, to compete in games on Thursday evening. The Bobcats swept the double-header against the Trinity Baptist College Eagles (1-19) on the road.

During this contest, The Sun Conference athletic directors and conference personnel decided to postpone all-conference and non-conference contest effective immediately through Friday, March 27th.

Game One Highlights

  • Rosado (1-3) got her fourth start of the year and picked up her first win as a Bobcat. This was Rosado's first start in the circle since Valentine's Day, facing Martin Methodist.
  • The Bobcats had a very productive offensive second inning, batting through the order and bringing in eight runs, off five hits, and capitalizing off three Eagle errors.
  • Rosado got the inning started, drawing a lead-off walk. Uribe then got an infield single to put two ducks on the pond.
  • Schmitz would deliver the first run of the game, driving a ball to the right-center gap to bring home Rosado and move Uribe to third.
  • With first and third action on the bases, Schmitz broke for second bringing home Uribe on the throw down to the bag, making the game 2-0.
  • A quality at-bat from Cundiff fouling off many pitches ultimately led to a base on balls.
  • DeFalco would come up, and line one passed the shortstop to bring home Schmitz and Cundiff, 4-0.
  • Samaniego and Rosado came up late with one-away and drove the back straight back up the middle for back-to-back singles.
  • Some errors by the Eagles' defense led to the 8-0 deficit for them.
  • TBC made a pitching change that would settle the Bobcat offense the remainder of the game.
  • Rosado threw a gem, allowing only one hit, no runs, and collecting four strikeouts.

Game Two Highlights

  • Winter (4-5) picked up her 11th start on the year and fourth win of the season.
  • The fifth-year senior retired the first four batters faced for a quiet inning and a third.
  • St. Thomas would break the egg first on the scoreboard once again, scoring in the second inning.
  • Schmitz and Esposito would get on with back-to-back singles to lead off the top of the second.
  • Negron would then deliver the sacrifice bunt to move them over. An Eagle error by the first baseman who overthrew third base scored both Schmitz and Esposito to make the game 2-0.
  • Trinity Baptist would come back in the bottom half of the second to even the game up at two apiece.
  • The Bobcats would scrap for three more runs scoring one in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings.
  • Williams brought home Schmitz with a sacrifice fly to centerfield for the go-ahead run in the fourth.
  • Martin scored off a McDade RBI single to the left-center gap after stealing second and reaching third on an Eagle throwing error from the catcher in the fifth.
  • STU's final run came in the sixth as Esposito scored off an RBI double from Samaniego that landed in the bermuda triangle between shortstop, leftfield and centerfield.
  • Winter would go on to retire the side herself, striking out the final four batters from TBC.
