STU OPENS 2021 WITH WIN OVER AMU

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (January 2, 2021) - St. Thomas University (STU) Women's Basketball (8-1, 5-1 TSC) returned to the court for the first time in 2021 and defeated Ave Maria (4-8, 1-5 TSC) 77-62 on Saturday afternoon from the Fernandez Family Center.

  • August recorded the first two buckets in the Sun Conference game, as STU took an early 4-0 lead.
  • Domond added five consecutive points for the Bobcats, extending the lead to 9-2.
  • St. Thomas continued the hot start to the game, opening a 14-2 advantage over the Gyrenes.
  • August notched three more points with a bucket in the final two minutes, sending STU into the second quarter leading 19-14.
  • Dozier started the second quarter by adding a three-pointer of her own, extending the Bobcat lead to 22-14.
  • AMU tied the game at 25-25 with 6:06 in the second quarter.
  • St. Thomas closed the second quarter on a 10-0 run, including a three-pointer from Rodriguez and a converted and-one from Domond to go into the break leading, 40-30.
  • The Gyrenes were able to cut the deficit to 42-40 before Dozier halted the momentum with another three-point make.
  • Dozier added four straight points for the Bobcats, putting STU ahead 51-41.
  • St. Thomas went into the fourth quarter with a 60-48 lead.
  • Brooke Bogatz put the Bobcats ahead 71-51, marking the game's largest lead for STU.
