BOBCATS UPSET BID FALLS JUST SHORT AGAINST #16 FIRE

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla (January 21, 2021)- St. Thomas University (STU) Women's Basketball (10-3, 7-3 TSC) fell to #16 Southeastern (13-2, 11-0 TSC) 51-47 Thursday evening from the Fernandez Family Center.

Game Notes:

  • Pressley scored the first points of the game with a layup 2-0, assisted by August.
  • Bobcats went on a 9-0 run throughout the middle of the first quarter, making the score 11-2.
  • The first quarter concluded with a 12-10 Bobcat lead over Fire.
  • Martinez-Sanz extended the Bobcat lead 14-10 with a layup to start the second quarter.
  • With an assist from Martinez-Sanz, Anari Dozier hit her first three-pointer of the game, bringing the Bobcat lead to seven points (19-12.)
  • Rodriguez recorded her first points of the game with a three-pointer to keep the Bobcats on top in the second quarter 22-17.
  • Domond added another three to the Bobcat score, creating space between the Bobcats and Fire 25-19 going into halftime.
  • August started off the third quarter with a three, recording her first points of the game and bringing the Bobcats score to 28, keeping a seven-point lead over Fire.
  • Most of the third quarter was spent as a back and forth as the Fire started to close the Bobcat lead gap, coming within two points at the end of the third (36-34.)
  • The fourth quarter was the first time the Bobcats did not lead the game, 37-36.
  • Domond quickly put the lead back in the Bobcat's favor with a jumper, giving a one-point 38-37 advantage.
  • August recorded a three-pointer to add to the Bobcats score 47-45, helping with the back-and-forth that happened throughout the fourth quarter.
  • Bobcats could not hold the lead as the Fire went up by 4 points with :03 seconds remaining in the game. 
  • Bobcats held the lead for 80 percent of the game.
