(RV) ST. THOMAS GETS THIRD STRAIGHT FIVE SET VICTORY

HIALEAH, Fla. (October 27, 2021) – The receiving votes St. Thomas University (STU) Women's Volleyball team (17-6, 9-2 SUN) won their third straight fifth-set victory taking down Florida National University (11-10) on Wednesday evening from Bucky Dent Park. St. Thomas is now on a four-game win streak their third of four or more on the season. St. Thomas extends a five-game win streak over the Conquistadors.

The Bobcats went with a new rotation today in the midweek non-conference matchup tonight as Kelly Rosario and Miranda Dominguez got their first starts of the season. The first set went in favor of the Bobcats as worked from behind in most of the set but came out victorious with a 25-23 set win.


Florida National continued their push into the second set hitting .211 and holding the Bobcat offense to .091. The Conquistadors tallied four service aces and took the set 25-16 to tie the match at one.
 
Set three titled back in favor for St. Thomas as they took a 2-1 match lead with a. 25-19 set win. Loreto Nunez-Casal scored the first and last point of the set, starting it off with a strong kill from Rosario and ending it with a service ace. The Bobcats went on a 9-3 run to close out the set.
 
The fourth set could have gone either way but fell in favor of the Conquistadors to tie the match at two and send it into a fifth set. The defense was the spark that kept them in it as Nunez-Casal and Dennis teamed up to stop the attacks on the right side line.
 
St. Thomas' offense did not hold back in set five as the team came out hot and attacking, starting with Amanda Allende. The Bobcats went on a 6-1 run that forced a Conquistador timeout. A full team effort was in effect limiting FNU to a .000 hitting percentage while STU hit .438, not committing a single attack error and recording five blocks.
 
Loreto Nunez Casal had quite the game with 10-kills and a career-high six blocks. Arianna Bolinger was the team leader in kills with 15, while Amanda Allende was right behind with 13. Grassi continued to hold down the back line with 24-digs and collecting a service ace. The defense picked up the second most blocks this season with 12, Sana Dennis was a part of seven collecting two on her own. Kelly Rosario had a career-high 33 assists to lead the team.
 
St. Thomas will hit the road for two more games before closing out the week. First up is conference opponent, Webber International University on Friday night at 7 p.m. and then bounce right back against Florida College on Saturday afternoon at 11 a.m.
