CISTERNA'S GAME WINNER LEADS #8 STU OVER GYRENES

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (October 6, 2021) – The eighth ranked St. Thomas University (STU) Men's Soccer team (6-0-2, 2-0-1 SUN) defeated the Ave Maria University Gyrenes (3-6-0, 1-2-0 SUN), 2-1, on Wednesday night in Sun Conference action from the Bobcat Turf Field.

  • STU took advantage of a Gyrenes offside and worked their way up the field. Cacciabue chipped the ball perfectly and found Bode who beat the keeper in a 1v1 as he came out to the top of the box.
  • St. Thomas out-shot Ave Maria 10-1 in the first half, six of which were on goal.
  • The second half found itself to more intense in the later minutes.
  • Facundo Cisterna gave STU the insurance they needed, scoring what eventually ended up being the game-winner, in the 89th minute.
  • Cisterna scored his fourth goal of the season in a wide-open net as Landburu set him up off the free kick.
  • Ave Maria quickly retaliated with a goal in their own goal ten seconds later.
  • The Bobcats were in sole control of the offense taking 22-shots with 12 on frame.
  • The offense all had 11 corner kick opportunities, while the defense did not allow a single corner kick for the Gyrenes.
