STU HOOPS UPSETS NO. 14 BLUE RAIDERS IN GAME ONE OF KENTUCKY ROAD TRIP

CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky. (November 26, 2021) – The St. Thomas University (STU) Women's Basketball team (5-2, 1-2 SUN) upsets the 14th ranked Lindsey Wilson College Blue Raiders (4-2) 72-66 on Friday afternoon in game one of the Julie Costello Memorial Classic hosted by Thomas More University.
 
The Bobcats defeat their first Top-25 team in the Candace Walker Era. After trailing through the first two quarters the Bobcats used another big third quarter to flip the script with 25-points to take a 51-46 lead into the final 10-minutes.


Kasey Gagan continues to be an offensive strength for the Bobcats scoring seven of her 23-points in the first quarter. The defense held the Blue Raiders to 1-10 from behind the arc in the first half, while shooting the Bobcats hit four of 10 from three to stay in the game.
 
The Bobcats trailed by as much as 13 from the with 7:45 left in the third quarter, but a 23-5 run to end the quarter tilted the scale in favor of STU for the first time all game. St. Thomas shot 69& from the field in the third, 60% from behind the arc.
 
Lindsey Wilson worked their way back into it reclaiming the lead 61-59 with 6:06 remaining. Patricia Martinez-Sanz would have the last turning point momentum to reclaim the lead and the momentum hitting an and-one with 3:15 on the clock. That would start a 12-5 run for St. Thomas that led them to victory after game deciding free throws were hit from numerous Bobcats.
 
St. Thomas took advantage over more points from turnovers outscoring the Blue Raiders 12-2. The Bobcat bench shined again, highlighted by Brooke Bogatz going 29-7 points against ghe restaurant.
 
Gagan highlights the box score with 23-points, her fourth double-digit performance this season. Chrsytal Pressley dominated the boards with 10, while adding six-points. Brooke Bogats continues to be the bench spark, scoring 20points while shooting 7-11 from the field.
 
St. Thomas will continue play at the Julie Costello Memorial Classic tomorrow, Saturday, November 27 at 2:15 p.m. against the receiving votes University of Science and Arts Oklahoma.
