HEARTBREAK FINISH FOR BOBCATS AGAINST DIVISION II SAILFISH

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (December 16, 2021) – The St. Thomas University (STU) Women's Basketball team (7-6, 3-2 SUN) fall just short in the final seconds of the game to NCAA Division II opponent, Palm Beach Atlantic (3-7) on Thursday evening from the Fernandez Family Center, 61-60. The Bobcats fall to 2-4 all time against the Sailfish.

Game Notes
  • Brooke Bogatz and Kasey Gagan led the way for the Bobcats in another down to the wire game.
  • The first quarter was all Bobcats as they took an eight-point lead at the end of the first 10-minutes.
  • St. Thomas only had two turnovers, while forcing five with the pressure defense.
  • The second quarter was a little quieter on the offense side as the Sailfish brough the game within one heading into the half.
  • Both teams scored 15-points in the third quarter which kept St. Thomas with the advantage of one-point at 44-43.
  • Renice Dacres gave STU a three-point cushion knocking down the first bucket of the fourth quarter.
  • The Bobcats looked to get in rhythm, but the final deciders would be again in the final minute.
  • As PBA took a one-point advantage with 1:56 left on the clock, Patricia Martinez Sanz was sent to the free-throw line, the senior sank both shots to tilt the scale back in favor of STU.
  • The Sailfish knocked down free-throw jumper that would be the final bucket of the game and the biggest one for PBA to gain the lead and keep it.
  • The Bobcats had three opportunities to tie or take the lead but were unable to close it out.

St. Thomas will head up to West Palm Beach to play in the West Palm Invitational hosted by Keiser University this weekend. They will take on Indiana University East on Saturday afternoon and ninth ranked Indiana Tech on Sunday evening.
