STU CLINCHES TSC TOURNEY SPOT WITH SEVENTH STRAIGHT WIN

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (February 18, 2021) - St. Thomas University (STU) Women's Basketball (17-3, 14-3 TSC) defeated Keiser University (14-10, 11-7 TSC) 70-64 in the Sun Conference Game of the Week from the Fernandez Family Center.

The win clinched St. Thomas University the second-seed in the Sun Conference Tournament for the third time in the Candace Walker-era.

Game Notes

  • The Sun Conference Game of the Week opened with the foes trading buckets in the opening minute.
  • Pressley and Domond each converted opportunities in the paint to give St. Thomas a 6-2 lead.
  • Anai Dozier extended the Bobcat advantage by making her first three-pointer of the contest.
  • Midway through the opening quarter, Brooke Bogatz made both her free throw attempts bringing the score to 11-6, in favor of STU.
  • August knocked down her first three-pointer, extending the St. Thomas lead to 16-8, with two minutes remaining in the first quarter.
  • Dozier scored her seventh points of the first quarter and gave STU a double-digit lead, 18-8, over the Seahawks.
  • St. Thomas ended the first quarter with a 20-10 advantage over KU.
  • Dozier hit her second three-point attempt of the game in the early minutes of the second quarter, preserving a double-digit lead for STU, 23-13. 
  • Domond broke a two-minute break in the scoring with her first three-pointer in the game, making the score 26-15.
  • Following the media timeout, KU responded with a three-pointer of their own to cut the Bobcats' lead to 26-18.
  • The Seahawks made back-to-back threes to make the score 28-24, halfway through the second quarter.
  • Bogatz sank a three-pointer to distance the Bobcats from Keiser, 31-24, with less than two minutes left in the half.

  • Renice Dacres converted back-to-back attempts to send the game into the fourth quarter, with STU leading 52-39.
  • Rodriguez finished an and-one attempt, bringing her point total to 10, and the Bobcats lead to 57-43.
  • Keiser scored five consecutive points, but Rodriguez halted the run with a three-pointer to keep the STU lead at 60-48.
  • KU cut the deficit to single digits, 61-53 when Martinez-Sanz finished a lay-up and brought the lead back to 10.
  • In the final two minutes of the game, Keiser's Patton made a three-pointer to cut the Bobcat advantage to six, 65-59.
  • In the final minute of the fourth quarter, Dozier knocked down a corner three-pointer before the shot clock expired, putting the Bobcats ahead 69-59.
  • A fevered run by Keiser brought the Seahawks within five, 69-64.
  • Keaubree Edwards made one-of-two shots from the free-throw line to put the score at 70-64, as Keiser called timeout. 
  • Keiser could not convert their final three-point attempt, as the Bobcats won the Sun Conference Game of the Week, 70-64.
