CLEVELAND, GA. (February 4, 2020) - No. 4 St. Thomas University (STU) Bobcats Baseball (0-1) began the 2021 season with a 6-4 defeat against Truett-McConnell University (3-1) from the TMU Baseball Complex on Thursday afternoon.
Thursday afternoon's contest against the TMU Bears marked the first STU Baseball game since March 11, 2020.

- Richard Sanchez made his collegiate debut, and his first career start for St. Thomas University
- Truett-McConnell opened the game with three runs in the bottom of the first inning to stake themselves to an early 3-0 lead over STU.
- With the bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the second, Head Coach Jorge Perez called to the bullpen to bring out Christian Dearman.
- Dearman retired the first batter he faced, stopping the Bears threat and keeping the score 3-0.
- Thompson recorded the first hit of the Bobcats season, driving a ball up the middle for a single.
- R. Fernandez notched his first collegiate hit in the top of the fourth, singling to right-center field.
- Rivero followed with a double to the right-center field gap, putting himself and Fernandez in scoring position for Khawly.
- Khawly beat out an infield single to third base, driving in Fernandez for the first STU run of the season.
- The Bobcats were unable to cut further into the deficit as the fourth inning ended.
- A 1-2-3 shutdown inning allowed St. Thomas to keep the momentum into the top of the fifth.
- Thompson began the inning with a single, and Lowry followed with a double, setting up a run-scoring opportunity for Guerra.
- Guerra brought in Thompson with a groundout to first base, and Lowry scored on an RBI single from Lopez, tying the game 3-3.
- Rivero added his second hit of the game, driving in Lopez on an RBI single to center field as the Bobcats took a 4-3 lead midway through the game.
- The game remained 4-3, in favor of the Bobcats until the bottom of the seventh inning.
- Luis Gonzalez entered the game for STU, and the Bears were able to reclaim the lead 5-4.
- TMU added an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth, taking a 6-4 lead.
- STU was unable to scratch across a run in the top of the ninth and dropped the season opener, 6-4.

No. 4 STU continues the season-opening road trip and will compete in the Southeast Rumble at Georgia Gwinnett College in Lawrenceville, GA. The Bobcats take on the Bryan College (TN.) Lions on Friday, February 5, at 1 p.m.
