#4 STU LOSES WU INVITATIONAL TITLE GAME ON WALK-OFF

LAKE WALES, Fla. (March 13, 2021) - No. 4 St. Thomas (15-9) was defeated in the Warner Invitational by the host, Warner University (18-11) in walk-off fashion, 2-1, on Saturday afternoon from Royals Field.

Game Notes

  • Lopez and Rangel each reached base to set-up a scoring opportunity for the Bobcats in the top of the first inning.
  • Warner escaped the jam unscathed, keeping the score at 0-0.
  • The Royals loaded the bases in the bottom of the first inning, but Cabrera induced a double play and got out of the inning without allowing a run. 
  • Lopez doubled to left field, and scored on an RBI single from Rangel, as STU took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third. 
  • Cabrera worked some magic again in the bottom of the third, loading the bases, and escaping the inning with a lineout to third base.
  • Cabrera shut out the Royals through five innings and handed the ball to Christian Dearman in the bottom of the sixth inning.
  • Warner tied the game, 1-1, on an RBI single in the sixth inning.
  • Jason Grana entered for St. Thomas in the bottom of the sixth inning, as well, and ended the Royals scoring threat.
  • The championship game remained tied 1-1 through nine innings, as the game went into extra innings.
  • Luis Gonzalez took over for STU in the tenth inning, recording the first two outs of the frame.
  • Warner hit a walk-off home run, with two outs in the inning, and defeated STU, 2-1, in the Warner Invitational title game.

No. 4 St. Thomas returns to Paul Demie Mainieri Field to take on the Florida National Conquistadors in a four-game series beginning on Friday, March 19. The series opener will begin at t3:30 p.m.
