BOBCATS SWEPT IN TSC OPENER

AVE MARIA, Fla. (March 17, 2021)- St. Thomas University Softball (6-6) dropped both games in a doubleheader 1-9 then 3-11 by Ave Maria University (14-4) in The Sun Conference Opener Wednesday afternoon.

Game One:

Game Notes:

  • Following a quick three down in the top of the first, the Gyrenes took a quick 5-0 lead over the Bobcats.
  • The Bobcats scored their run when an error on a SAC fly let Pacetti score 1-5.
  • Winter grabbed three strike-outs between innings two and four to keep the innings short.
  • In the bottom of the fifth, the Gyrenes extended their lead to 8-1 over the Bobcats.
  •  Ave Maria added their last run in the bottom of the sixth, finalizing the score 9-1 in favor of the Gyrenes.

Game Two:

Game Notes:

  • A SAC ball to third from Potorff allowed Artiles to score, giving the Bobcats a quick 1-0 lead.
  • The bottom of the fourth changed the game in favor of the Gyrenes, 4-1.
  • A double from Artiles in the top of the third allowed Negron to score, bringing the Bobcats within two, 2-4.
  • The bottom of the third was successful in adding a run to the Gyrenes total, 5-2.
  • Ave extended their lead 7-2 over the Bobcats in the bottom of the fourth inning.
  • Bautista singling up the left side in the top of the fifth allowed Negron to score, becoming 7-3 in favor of the Gyrenes.
  • The Gyrenes scored four in the bottom of the sixth, totaling the score 11-3.

Upcoming:

St. Thomas University Softball returns to the field on March 20 to face No. 25 Southeastern in a doubleheader. The start times are scheduled for 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.
