TAMARAC, Fla. (March 24, 2021) - The 23rd ranked St. Thomas University (STU) Women's Tennis team (5-5) earned its fifth win of the season, defeating Florida National University 6-1 on Wednesday evening.
"All of our girls stepped up when faced with adversity due to having to pull our top singles at the conclusion of doubles," said Head Coach Matt Roche. "Today was a true representation of next woman up.:
Singles
- Annie Carrera set the tone for the Bobcats, picking up a the first singles win (6-0, 6-1).
- Lia Pena continued her hot streak, earning another win to her 2021 campaign with a (6-3, 6-3) win.
- Vanessa Centeno earned the third STU singles win, defeating Vanessa Simone (6-0, 6-3).
- Giovanna Paschoalin defeated Emerald Cooke (6-2, 6-3) adding to the STU lead.
- Thais Shibata fell in her singles match against Karyna Krykunenko in three-sets (4-6, 6-2, 8-10)
- Sophia Perez finished singles play with a (6-3, 6-3) win over Paulina Larkon.
Doubles
- The duo of Carrera and Pena defeated Simone and Hurtad (6-1)
- Centeno and Patterson teamed to beat Suwanruk and Krykunenko (7-5).
- Paschoalin and Shibata fell (4-6) against Cooke and Larkon.
Upcoming
No. 23 St. Thomas takes on Warner University on Saturday, March 27, in Lake Wales. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m.
