#12 BOBCATS EARN SERIES VICTORY OVER NIGHTHAWKS

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (March 26. 2021) - No. 12 St. Thomas University (21-11, 7-3 TSC) took both games of a doubleheader against Thomas University (14-18, 3-8 TSC) on Friday evening. The 12th ranked Bobcats took game one in a seven-inning run-rule, 12-1, and won the series with an 8-2 victory in game two.

  • STU got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the first inning, starting the scoring with an RBI double from Rivero.
  • Rangel scored later on a wild pitch to put the score at 2-0.
  • R. Fernandez brought in Khawly on a fielder's choice, as STU took a 3-0 lead.
  • The Bobcats extended the lead to 4-0, as Khawly plated Thompson on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the second inning.
  • St. Thomas tacked on six more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to take a commanding 9-0 lead.
  • R. Fernandez started the scoring with an RBI double to bring in Rangel.
  • A. Fernandez was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, which scored Montesino, putting the score at 6-0.
  • R. Fernandez scored on a wild pitch, which was followed by an RBI single from Thompson as STU took an 8-0 advantage.
  • The Bobcats capped off the frame with A. Fernandez scoring on an error. 
  • Two doubles from the Nighthawks in the top of the fifth inning got TU on the board, as they trailed 9-1.
  • An infield single from Mondejar brought in Rivero, giving STU a 10-1 lead in the bottom of the fifth inning. 
  • After consecutive singles from Thomas, Joel Rivero entered in relief for Pino.
  • Rivero stranded runners on second and third, by getting a strikeout and inducing a ground out to Lopez.
  • St. Thomas tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, taking a 12-1 lead.
  • Rivero ended the game by sending the Nighthawks down in order, as STU took the game one victory, 12-1.

  • Lopez led off the bottom of the first inning with a double to left field, and Khawly followed with a walk.
  • The duo each stole a base, as part of a double steal and moved into scoring position for Rangel.
  • Rangel singled to center field and drove in Lopez, as STU took a 1-0 lead.
  • Montesino added an RBI on a groundout, extending the lead to 2-0.
  • R. Fernandez ended the scoring with a single to center field, driving in Rangel, as STU took a 3-0 advantage. 
  • Gonzalez stranded a TU runner on second base with a strikeout to end the bottom of the second inning. 
  • The Nighthawks got on the scoreboard with their first run in the top of the fourth, with a one-out solo home run, making the score 3-1.
  • Jason Grana relieved Gonzalez in the fourth inning, stranding two runners on base with a strikeout.
  • Estevez extended the STU advantage to 5-1 with a bases-loaded single to left field, which scored Rivero and Rangel.
  • Grana escaped a bases-loaded jam unscathed by inducing a ground out to Rivero, sending the game to the bottom of the seventh.
  • Lopez led off the inning with a double to right-center field and scored on a double steal with Rangel.
  • TU cut into the STU lead with an RBI single in the top of the eighth inning, putting the score at 6-2.
  • St. Thomas responded with a two-run bottom of the eighth inning, taking an 8-2 advantage.
  • Guerra drove in Schoeller with an RBI single and came into score on an RBI single from Lopez.
  • Jose Ledesma entered for St. Thomas in the top of the ninth, looking for the final three outs. 
  • Ledesma recorded the final three outs, as STU took the series win with an 8-2 victory.
