MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (March 31, 2021) - St. Thomas University (STU) Softball (9-11, 3-7 TSC) split a Sun Conference doubleheader against the Ave Maria University Gyrenes on Wednesday evening from Colonel Jacquelin Kelly Field. STU dropped game one 8-0, and the Bobcats bounced back with a run-rule 11-3 victory in the second game.

- Smits held Ave Maria off the scoreboard for the first four innings, keeping the score at 0-0.
- Erica Winter entered in the fifth inning for the Bobcats, relieving Smits.
- The Gyrenes capitalized off of a STU error and scored four runs in the top of the fifth inning to take a 4-0 lead.Â
- AMU followed with a four-run top of the sixth inning and took an 8-0.Â
- The Bobcats were held off the scoreboard and were shutout, dropping the game 8-0.Â

- Ave Maria scored three runs in the top of the third inning, capping the frame off with an RBI single, and taking a 3-0 lead.
- The Bobcats quickly responded back with two runs, starting the bottom of the third inning with four consecutive hits.Â
- Casanova led off the inning with a double down the right-field line and scored on an Artiles RBI single. Pacetti followed with an RBI single, which scored Negron.
- Smith worked around a two-out double and preserved a 3-2 score in the top of the fifth inning.Â
- Artiles led off the bottom of the fifth inning with a double off the left-field fence, and later scored on an RBI double from Gilbert, tying the game at 3-3.
- Uribe gave St. Thomas the lead with an RBI single, driving in Pacetti.
- Spalding followed with a single of her own which plated Gilbert.
- Casanova singles to right-field, driving in Uribe and Bautista, as STU took a 7-3 lead.
- Artiles tallied her second double of the inning, driving in Casanova, which scored Casanova.Â
- Gilbert drove in the eighth St. Thomas University run of the inning with a single to center-field, bringing in Artiles.
- Bautista capped off a nine-run outburst by STU, with a double to right field, plating Pacetti as the Bobcats run-ruled the Gyrenes, 11-3.
- The 18 hits were the second-most hits since April 12, 2008, when STU recorded 21-hits against Edward Waters.
