STU RUN RULES #18 WU IN GAME ONE, SPLITS DOUBLEHEADER

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (April 14, 2021) - St. Thomas University (STU) Softball (11-15, 5-11 TSC) split a Sun Conference doubleheader against No. 18 Warner University on Wednesday evening. STU run-ruled the Warner Royals, 8-0, in game one and lost 3-0 in the night-cap.

  • Smits opened the game with two strikeouts in the top of the first inning. 
  • Smits worked around a one-out double with two consecutive outs to keep the score at 0-0.
  • Descheene led off the bottom of the third with a walk, and STU loaded the bases with back-to-back bunts. 
  • Gilbert lined a two-run single to center field, scoring Pacetti and Artiles and giving STU a 2-0 lead.
  • Smits helped herself out and drove in two more runs, with a two-run double, as the Bobcats took a 4-0 advantage.
  • Artiles started the bottom of the fifth inning with a triple to right field and scored on a wild pitch.
  • Smits led off the bottom of the sixth inning with a triple of her own for her second hit of the game.
  • Brown doubled to right field, driving in Negron and Nicole Hauck, as STU took a 7-0 lead.
  • Pacetti finished the run-rule win with an RBI double, giving the Bobcats an 8-0 victory over the No. 18 Royals.

  • Winter started the game with a 1-2-3 inning, setting up the Bobcat offense.
  • Neither team had a base-runner until Descheene doubled to left field. 
  • Winter recorded the retired the first 13-Royals she faced, before allowing back-to-back hits as Warner took a 1-0 lead. 
  • WU took a 2-0 lead on an RBI single, and capped off the three-run inning with a run on a passed ball.
  • The STU offense held scoreless the remainder of the game, as the Bobcats were shutout and fell 3-0 in the second half of the doubleheader.
