BOBCATS DROP DOUBLEHEADER TO FIRE

LAKELAND, Fla. (April 28, 2021) - St. Thomas University Softball (13-21, 7-17 TSC) were swept in a Sun Conference Doubleheader against Southeastern University from the SEU Softball Field on Wednesday afternoon. The Bobcat dropped game one in an 8-0 run-rule, and followed with a 4-0 loss in game two.

Game Notes

  • Gilbert led off the top of the second inning with a double, giving STU its first hit of the game.
  • Guillermo added a two-out single later in the inning and stole second base to give the Bobcats runners in scoring position.
  • STU was unable to capitalize, leaving the score at 0-0.
  • Smith held SEU out of the hit column for the first three innings of the game.
  • The Fire broke the game open in the bottom of the fourth inning, with seven consecutive hitters reaching base.
  • Southeastern took a 1-0 lead following their third single of the inning and added another run on another RBI single.
  • SEU added six more runs in the inning, including a grand slam, to take an 8-0 lead over the Bobcats.
  • Negron hit a triple in the top of the fifth inning but was unable to score as the Bobcats were held off the scoreboard.

  • Bobcats started the game connecting with the ball but could not score any runs, stranding one runner on the bases.
  • Winter secured her first strikeout of the game in the third.
  • The Fire recorded the first run of the game in the fourth inning, putting them 1-0 over the Bobcats.
  • Southeastern added another run in the fifth, extending their lead to 2-0.
  • Back-to-back singles for the Fire scored two more runs in the fifth, going up 4-0.
  • Bobcats were unable to respond, going three and out in the sixth and seventh, closing out the day.

St. Thomas will host Keiser University in the final doubleheader of the season on Saturday, May 1, from Colonel Jacquelin J. Kelly Field, beginning at 12 p.m. Before the games, STU will honor the 2021 senior class.
