RESILIENCE LEADS TO OVERTIME VICTORY FOR THE BOBCATS SEASON OPENER

LAKELAND, Fla. (August 26, 2021) – St. Thomas University's (STU) Men's Soccer team (1-0-0) opened up the season with an overtime victory on Thursday night in game one of the SEU Invitational against Grace College. St. Thomas scored the golden goal to win by a final score of 2-1 over the Lancers.

  • Franco Acerbi got the starting nod in the net for the Bobcats season opener.
  • Grace College is receiving votes in the latest NAIA Coaches' Poll.
  • The Lancers got on the board first in the 14th minute off a corner kick.
  • St. Thomas held possession for most of the first half but were unable to capitalize on the seven shots that were taken.
  • The Bobcats out-shot the Lancers 12(7)-9(2) for the match.
  • After trailing for 73 minutes of the match, Arzeno found a way to break the ice and score from just inside the 18-yard box in the 87th minute.
  • Arzeno put it through with his left foot to the lower left side of the goal off a pass from Facundo Cisterna.
  • The NAIA All-American Honorable Mention senior is the SUN Player to Watch for the Bobcats and is continue to dominate the offensive end.
  • STU continued to attack and got three more shots off in the last three minutes of regulation.
  • With the golden goal in effect, it only took the first 46-seconds of overtime for the Bobcats to score and take the victory.
  • The sophomore, Cacciabue did not disappoint in his Bobcat debut as he scored the game winner with a left footed strike past the keeper for the first victory of the season.
