#7 STU FUTBOL SWEEPS PLAY AT THE SEU INVITATIONAL

LAKELAND, Fla. (August 28, 2021) – St. Thomas University's (STU) Men's Soccer team (2-0-0) recorded their second victory of the season over Bethel College (Ind.), 3-0, to close out play at the SEU Invitational hosted by Southeastern University on Saturday night.

Match Notes
  • Franco Acerbi got his second straight starting nod in the net for the Bobcats this season and recorded his first shutout on the year with five saves.
  • The Pilots started with the attack early getting a shot off in the first five minutes of play
  • St. Thomas scored on their first shot of the day coming off the head of last night's hero and today's birthday boy, Guido Cacciabue (2).
  • A Bobcat yellow-card granted Bethel with a penalty kick that was shot wide by Richie Ontiveros.
  • STU was able to get some cushion before the half with a header-goal from Alvaro Bode in the 39th-minute.
  • A hard foul by the Bethel Pilots awarded St. Thomas with a penalty kick in the 67th-minute, although Mark Oghogho was unable to capitalize on the opportunity.
  • Acerbi made back-to-back key saves to keep the lead at two.
  • Oghogho was able to redeem himself in the 78th-minute, when he rebounded his first shot that was deflected off the keeper and put his second touch in the back of the net for his first goal of the season to give STU a 3-0 lead.
  • The Bobcats out-shot the Pilots 11(7)-8(5) for the match.
