Match Notes
  • Franco Acerbi improves his record this season to 4-0-2 while picking up his first win in Sun Conference play on the year.
  • St. Thomas is on a seven-game win streak over the Lions dating back to 2016, shutting them out for five of the matches.
  • It was only right that the first goal in history on the new turf field belongs to NAIA All-American and the offensive leader for the Bobcats, Fernando Arzeno.
  • Arzeno found the back-post from a corner-kick set up by Federico Landaburu and followed through with the header goal in the 20th-minute of the match to give STU the 1-0 lead.
  • St. Thomas' defense did not allow a single shot from Florida Memorial in the first half.
  • On the flip side, STU's offense put up 12-shots in the first half with seven on goal.
  • Facundo Cisterna continues to be the extra offensive help that is needed to alleviate the scoring pressure off of Arzeno.
  • Cisterna picked up his third goal of the season which proved to be the perfect insurance for the Bobcats.
  • The newcomer took advantage of a Lions goalkeeper save and struck the deflection straight to the back of the net in the 65th-minute for the 2-0 lead.
  • Florida Memorial did not give up as their offensive picked up in the last 15-minutes of play.
  • The Lions cut the deficit to one with their own back post header goal off a cross in the box.
  • FMU put up four very contesting shots that could have easily tied the match up in the final minutes, but STU keeper, Acerbi, made a terrific save that denied them of their closest opportunity.
  • St. Thomas would go ahead and hold onto the lead and record the first win on the opening night of the Bobcat Turf Field, sealing the deal on history and making it a memorable one.
  • STU out-shot FMU 21-4 on the match with 13 on goal for the Bobcats and two on goal for the Lions.
  • The St. Thomas offense also had 12 corner kicks to Florida Memorial's three.
