STU FINISHES FIRST HALF OF SUN PLAY ON A HIGH NOTE

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (January 18, 2022) – The St. Thomas University (STU) Women's Basketball team (8-10, 4-4 SUN) wrapped up their first round of Sun Conference play on a high note defeating Ave Maria University (9-7, 3-4 SUN) 79-72 on Tuesday evening in a rescheduled contest. St. Thomas finishes the first round at an even .500 taking half the games and tied for fourth place with Keiser.

Game Notes
  • The Bobcats snap a losing streak and get back in the win column to end the first round of conference play.
  • It was a total team effort tonight against the Gyrenes as three Bobcats scored in double digits with help off the bench as well.
  • In what was a slow start slowly sped up throughout the game. The first quarter ended in favor of the Gyrenes at 19-16.
  • St. Thomas held the Gyrenes to just 14-points in the second quarter to take a five-point lead into the half.
  • Despite a very hot-handed three points shooter in the Gyrenes Gianna Santacroce, STU held their own shooting 63-percent from behind the arc making 10-threes.
  • As a team STU shot 47% from the field and 63 percent from the charity stripe to take the eight-point win.
  • Kasey Gagan collected her fourth straight double-figure game, making it her 13th of the season.
  • Patricia Martinez-Sanz had a complete game effort scoring 13-poibnts with three-rebounds, five-assists, and three steals.
  • Chrystal Pressley continues to lead the glass game and pick pocketed a few to add to her defensive stats.
  • Pressley had 10-rebounds and four-steals to lead the defense.
  • Naeve Duarte and Kayla Rodriguez gave the Bobcats a boost off the bench with 19-points combined.
