MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (January 22, 2022) – The St. Thomas University (STU) Women's Basketball team (8-11, 4-5 SUN) took a tough loss against crosstown rival, Florida Memorial University (10-6, 6-2 SUN) on the road 83-69 as the team began the second round of Sun Conference play.

Game Notes
Saturday afternoon was the second matchup of the Battle of Miami Gardens this season. The Lions take the season series with the victory.

St. Thomas had a back-and-forth battle in the first quarter, the lead flipped the scoreboard in the sixth minute at 11-9. The quarter was left at 22-18 in favor of the Lions.

The defense was key in keeping the game close as the Bobcats had the advantage in the glass game and steals. The third quarter was the difference maker as FMU took a double-digit lead that was too big for STU to work their way back.

The Bobcats held Florida Memorial to just 13-points in the final frame while leading the game on the glass with 50-rebounds only allowing eight offensive rebounds for the Lions. The Bobcat bench outscored the Lions 36-12 led by the hot-handed
Mya Moye who led the team with 15-points.

Kasey Gagan and
Brooke Bogatz both collected 12-points to round out the double-digit point getters. The team collected 13-steals on the day and forced 20-turnovers.
