(RV) Wrestling Squad Defeats Two Ranked Opponents at Eagle Duals in Kansas City

KANSAS CITY, MO. (December 17, 2022)- The St. Thomas University (STU) Wrestling squad traveled far to Kansas City, Missouri, to compete in the Eagle Duals. As a team the Bobcats defeated the #16 ranked Baker University along with the #24 ranked St. Mary. 
 
Starting it off in the 141lb class David Pierson dominated, going a perfect 5-0. Pierson's first victory was by majority decision 13-5 over Hartwell Taylor of St. Mary. The next match he defeated Angelo Reyes of Ottawa by fall (0:53). In his third match Pierson defeated Logan Farrell of Baker by fall (7:00). The fourth match was forfeited and in Pierson's final match he defeated Luke Ward from Avila by fall (1:08).
 
In the 149lb class Christian Espinoza went 2-3 on the day. In his first match, Espinoza defeated 
Parker White from Ottawa by decision 4-0. In his second match he defeated Cael Lynch of Baker by major decision 9-1. Espinoza dropped his next three matches, one by decision 10-3, one by major decision 12-2, and the last by tech fall 15-0.
 
Moving into the 157lb class JJ Contreras went 1-2, and Thomas Williams went 0-1. Contreras lost his first match by decision 11-6. Contreras came back out and dominated his opponent in the next match defeating Nakkos Bentos of Baker by Tech fall 16-0. In his last match he was defeated by decision 8-7. Williams was defeated by decision 4-2 in his only match of the day.
 
Daniel Garlin had a good day in the 165lb class going 3-2. After losing by fall in his first match, Garlin won by forfeit in the next match, and in the third match defeating Jalon Strong from Waldorf by decision 14-10. Garlin won his final match of the day defeating Jackson Jones of St. Mary by fall (4:39). 
 
Michael Abidin took over the 174lb class going 4-0. In the first match Abidin defeated Roemelo Hudson from Waldorf by fall (4:09). In his second match, Abidin put a beating on Jake Callahan of Avila defeating him by Tech fall 17-2. In the third match he defeated Maxx Demann of St. Mary by decision 8-5. In his final match, Abidin defeated Cordell hunt from Ottawa by fall (6:13).
 
In the 184lb class, Christian Cobo went 2-2. In Cobo's first match he took down Gabe Chesbro of St. Mary by decision 8-3. In his second match he went on to defeat Randy Mugisha of Waldorf by fall (5:44). Cobo lost his last two matches one by decision 5-3, and the other by fall. 
 
Jessiah Garcia-Contreras had a solid day in the 197lb class going 3-2. In his first match he defeated Jackson Rikter from Waldorf by fall just 24 seconds in. In his second match he was defeated by fall, then his next match was forfeited, and losing his fourth match by decision 3-0. Garcia-Contreras responded in his next match defeating Roman Bushek of Baker by fall (5:29). 
 
Last but not least in the 285lb class, Jairo Caceres was stellar going 4-1. His first match was forfeited, and in his second match he was defeated by fall. After losing, Caceres came out winning his next two matches, one by fall (1:45), the other by decision 9-3.
