MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (March 17, 2022) – The St. Thomas University Softball team (8-7) took on Indiana Tech University (5-12) in a double header on Thursday afternoon from Colonel Jacquelin J. Kelly Field. The Bobcats took game one by a score 6-2 while falling late in game two 6-5. This was just the second time this season STU has played at home.

Game one had Kailtin Spalding in the circle throwing a complete game as the senior picked up her second win of the season. Spalding gave up seven hits, two runs, no free passes, all on 95 pitches.

Sophia Negron was the star on the offensive end going two-for-four but reaching base three times.
Oaskarley Ochoa was a big team player putting down three straight sacrifice bunts to put Negron in scoring position.
Deavyn McDade had the big hit of the game for a bases clearing double to left center.

Marla Lavado was a one hit wonder coming into pinch hit and delivered the RBI-single.

Hope Quinones got the start in game two throwing six innings giving up three hits, five runs, none of which were earned. Indiana Tech jumped on the board first in the bottom of the first scoring a run. St. Thomas jumped right back with a four-run third as
Cameron Darnell had the big blast, the first of her career.

The Warriors had a big inning of their own as they scored four in. the sixth capitalizing on walks and errors from the Bobcats.

St. Thomas was able to tie it up at five all in the bottom of the sixth as Ochoa came through with a single to centerfield. Indiana Tech would get the most important run of the game in the top of the seventh, taking advantage of a leadoff double.

Overall, the Bobcats outscored the Warriors 11-8 but did commit seven errors on the day that led to the fall in game two.

St. Thomas will open Sun Conference action at home taking on Warner University in a three-game series. Game one is slotted for Friday, March 18 at 5 p.m. with a double-header on Saturday starting at 12 p.m.
