COCHRAN, Ga. (September 20, 2022) - The goals just kept on coming for no. 5 St. Thomas University (STU) Men's Soccer team (3-0) as they blast past Middle Georgia State University (0-7) on the road Tuesday night. St. Thomas scored a new program record 10 goals, hitting the double digit mark for the first time.
Felipe Madero had the early scoring for the Bobcats, putting up two goals in the first half. The first goal coming off a a free kick from the foot of Guido Cacciabue in the 19th minute. Madero was able to find the net once again in the 30th minute to make it 2-0 going into halftime.
As Coach Feliks Mats continues to work different players into the game to see minutes in the early season, five bench players were able to take advantage of the opportunity and score. Mark Oghogho and Ben Becker highlight the bench squad, coming into the match and scoring two goals each.
Tomas Persico, Rion Quentin Klaas, and Soeren Zeidler were also able to capitalize and join the fun from the bench scoring one goal each. Fernando Arzeno would not be left out of the fun as the graduate student checked back into the game to find the back of the net with just a minute and a half left of the contest and make it final at 10-0.
Seven different Bobcats scored with three cashing in on multi-goal games. Oghogho and Becker also recorded assist to lead the way with five points each.
St. Thomas had 30 shots with 19 on goal and 10 finding the back of the net. Franco Acerbi had a light day in the back recording three saves for all three shots faced in 66 minutes of play. Vinicius Cadengue made his Bobcat debut and was able to hold on for a combined shutout.
The Bobcats will head home and gear up for Sun Conference action that begins Saturday, September 24. First game is set against Thomas (Ga.) on AutoNation Field at 11 a.m.Â
