STU Volleyball Dominates CCG to Spark Three Match Win Streak

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (September 24, 2022) – St. Thomas University (STU) Volleyball (7-4, 3-1 SUN) rolls past the College of Coastal Georgia (7-8, 0-3 SUN) for their third straight win. St. Thomas cruised past the Mariners in three sets: 25-20, 25-9, 25-20.
 
The Bobcats dominated Saturday afternoon's match playing a clean game. A slow start for STU led to a 4-0 Coastal Georgia lead in set one. St. Thomas worked their way to flip the scoreboard taking a 12-11 lead from a Sana Dennis kill. CCGA worked their way to bring the game within on at 17-16 before Bianca Grassi turned it around with back-to-back service aces to make it 21-16 Bobcats.
 
Set one ended with a Tayla Barnes kill and Mya Thomas service ace. St. Thomas hit .375 in the first set with five service aces.
 
Set two was much more commanding and in favor of the Bobcats as Alexandra MacAskill opened the set with a service ace. An impressive .476 hit percentage would be the difference to Coastal Georgia's -.09 hit percentage. The longest run of the season was 14-1 as the Bobcats closed out on a 2-0 match lead with a mixture of kills and service aces.
 
The match wrapped up with a competitive set three after trailing 4-1 once again, STU rallied their way back with the help of three straight attack errors from the Mariners. MacAskill turned it up in set three doing it all with a strong defense and aggressive attack.
 
Hope Leavy-Gaskin ended a match once again with the put away kill freezing the backrow.
