LAKELAND, Fla. (January 14, 2023)- The St. Thomas University (STU) wrestling team traveled to Lakeland, Fla. to compete in the Florida Duals against Keiser and Southeastern. 
 
St. Thomas vs. Keiser
 
Starting off with DJ Perez in the 125lb division. Perez was defeated by Kaluv Peterson by sudden victory 8-6. Getting into the 133lb class, was Jerry Molina who was defeated by Bryce Cockrell by decision 5-0.
 
Thomas Williams in the 141lb class got the Bobcats first victory, defeating Joe Gallo by fall (6:20). Williams earned six team points for STU. Keeping the ball rolling, in the 149lb class, Christian Espinoza got another win for the Bobcats, defeating James Berline by major decision 10-1, and earning four team points. 
 
Kade Clute was defeated by Brady Ellison in the 157lb class by fall (4:06). Daniel Garlin dropped his match to Adam El-Damir in the 165lb division by decision 6-3. After two straight losses, Christian Cobo turned it around, defeating Brett Bosserman by major decision 16-4 in the 174lb class. 
 
Moving onto the 184lb class, Shemar Barthelus was defeated by Jared Tracey by fall six minutes into the match. Esteban Hoyos got the win by forfeit in the 197 lb class. And in the 285lb class, Jairo Caceres was defeated by the 11^thranked Earnest Johnson by fall (3:25). Final team score was Seahawks 27 and Bobcats 20.
 
St. Thomas vs. Southeastern 
 
Steven Moreno in the 125lb class, was defeated by Trevor Borom by decision 6-5. Getting into the 133lb class, Jerry Molina was defeated by the 18^thranked Isaac Lopez by tech fall (4:55). Thomas Williams picked up the first win for STU in the 141lb class defeating Chris Kelly by decision 6-5.
 
In the 149lb class, Christian Espinoza was defeated by Michael Shannon by sudden victory 6-4. Kade Clute was defeated by tech fall by the 6^thranked Salvador Silva in the 157lb division. In the 165lb class, Daniel Garlin was defeated by decision 8-5 Izac Martinez. 
 
In the 174lb division, Christian Cobo picked up the second win for the Bobcats, defeating Jonathan Vanderbilt by decision 9-8. Shemar Barthelus was defeated in the 184lb class, by Christian Just by fall (1:31). 
 
Estaban Hoyos was defeated by fall (2:01), by Tristan Middlebrook in 197lb class. Last but not least in the 285lb class, Jairo Caceres was defeated by fall (:50) by the 1^stranked Gage Braun. Final team score was Fire 37 and Bobcats 6.
