Men's Wrestling Picks Up a Dominating Win Against Brewton-Parker in the Bobcat Duals

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (January 6, 2022)- The St. Thomas University (STU) Wrestling team hosted John Carroll University, and Brewton-Parker College in the Bobcat Duals. The Bobcats lost the first match versus John Carrol, but bounced back in a big way against Brewton-Parker, winning 39-5. 
 
Starting off with STU vs. John Carroll, John Carroll went on to forfeit the 125lb class against Stephen Moreno. Moving onto the 133lb class, Jerry Molina was pinned 21 seconds into the match by the Blue Streaks wrestler.
 
David Pierson had another great showing in the 141lb class earning 6 team point. Pierson defeated Anthony Santanagata of John Carroll by pinning him 1:27 into the match. In the 149lb class, Chrsitian Espinoza lost a back a forth match by decision 6-3. 
 
In the 157lb class, Kade Clute was defeated by fall at the 2:12 mark. Noel Fuentes dropped a hard-fought match in the 165lb class, getting pinned in the second period. Christian Cobo had another solid match this time dominating Trystan Zahornski, getting the win by major decision 14-4. 
 
Despite a scrappy match up, Shemar Barthelus was defeated in the third period, losing by major decision 8-0. Estaban Hoyos was defeated by tech fall in the 197lb class. And last but not least, Jairo Caceres got the win in the 185lb class by getting the pin 1:14 into the match. 
 
Moving to the match against Brewton-Parker College, Stephen Moreno in the 125lb class dropped his match by decision 2-1 in a long grinding match. Jerry Molina got the tech fall in the 133lb class in the second period. 
 
After the 141lb class was forfeited by Brewton-Parker, Christian Espinoza picked up the win in the 149lb class, by major decision 16-2. Kade Clute kept the momentum going in the 157lb class, also picking up a win by major decision 12-2. 
 
Noel Fuentes took the W by forfeit in the 165lb class. Christian Cobo got another win on the day in the 174lb class, this time winning by decision 7-2. Shemar Barthelus picked up a win by another forfeit in the 184lb class. 
 
Estaban Hoyos lost a very close match in the 197lb class, losing by decision 7-6. Jairo Caceres kept his winning ways going in the 285lb class, getting another pin 1:46 into the match.
