#25 Women’s Soccer Upsets #11 Keiser in Shutout Win

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (September 30, 2023) - The St. Thomas University (STU) Women's Soccer Team traveled to West Palm Beach, Fla. on Saturday morning to defeat #11 Keiser University in a shutout. This is the first Bobcats win against the Seahawks since the 2021 season and the fourth win in series history.

The match started with a lot of back-and-forth between the Bobcats and the Seahawks, both teams notching seven shots. About halfway through period one, the Bobcats leading shooter Gabrielle Cimino dribbled the ball towards the net and took her shot, putting the Bobcats up 1-0 in the 26th minute. This was Cimino's third goal of the season. The Bobcats defense held Keiser off for the rest of the half.

After the intermission, the Bobcats hit the field with some fresh feet. Alexandra Santiago entered the match for the Bobcats in the 60th minute, and one minute later she made a through pass to Bryanna Alzate who went on to score the second goal for the Bobcats, making the score 2-0. This is Alzate's third goal of the season, putting her in the lead for the Bobcats alongside Cimino.

Being up 2-0 did not stop the Bobcats from playing offensively. In the 66th minute of the match, Megan Velazquez found herself in the perfect position to take her shot, scoring the third goal of the game unassisted. The Bobcats Defense and Goalkeeper Isabella Penaranda protected the goal for the rest of the game, finishing in a shutout win against the Seahawks and Penaranda notching five saves. The final score of the match was 3-0, which brings the Bobcats overall record to 6-1-2 and their conference record to 3-1-2.

The Bobcats will host Ave Maria University on Wednesday, October 4th at 7 p.m. at AutoNation Field before traveling down the road to Dr. Lester Brown Park to face Florida Memorial on Saturday, October 7th at 11 a.m.
