MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (October 11, 2023) - The St. Thomas University (STU) Women's Soccer team took to the field Wednesday evening to face off against #13 Southeastern University in a highly anticipated showdown. The Bobcats were unable to secure the win, falling to the Fire 3-1.
The game got off to an intense start, with the Fire taking an early lead. Just 33 seconds into the match, Katie Carnes from Southeastern managed to find the back of the net, giving the Fire the advantage.
As the game unfolded, the action remained electric, with both teams fiercely contesting control of the ball. Southeastern's defense was put to the test as the Bobcats attempted to equalize. STU unleashed a total of 26 shots during the game, demonstrating their determination to make a comeback.
The Bobcats fired off 13 shots in each half, showcasing their offensive prowess. Cristina Blaya San Pedro, managed to score a goal for St. Thomas in the 60th minute, assisted by Megan Velazquez. Her impressive performance was a bright spot in a hard-fought match. Gabrielle Cimino also had eight shots during the match up but was unable to secure a goal for the Bobcats.
Despite the relentless efforts to score, the Bobcats were unable to breach the Fire's barrier for another goal. The Fire ultimately put two more points on the board in the second half, leading them to victory.
Despite St. Thomas's numerous attempts, the Bobcats couldn't put out the Fire, ending the match with a final score of 3-1. This match brings the Bobcats to 8-2-2 overall and 5-2-2 in Sun Conference play.
Up next, the Bobcats will head to Babson Park, Fla. to face Webber International University on Saturday, October 14th at 7 p.m.
