BABSON PARK, Fla. (October 14, 2023) - The #17 St. Thomas University (STU) Women's Soccer team traveled to Babson Park, Fla. to face off against Webber International University on Saturday afternoon. The Bobcats showcased their dominance with a resounding victory of 3-0.
The first goal of the match was netted by Alexandra Acevado in the 22nd minute, setting the tone for their strong performance. This goal was a result of a rebound from a shot by Gabrielle Cimino, catching the Webber International defense off guard. This marks Acevado's second goal of the season. The scoreboard displayed 1-0 in favor of St. Thomas for the rest of the half.
As the Bobcats entered the second half, Defender Natalie Woodward proved to be a star player. Woodward added two more goals to the scoreboard for the Bobcats, one in the 49th minute, and another in the 54th minute, with different styles of play. Woodward's first goal was a powerful strike from about 25 yards out, showcasing precise shooting ability and marking her first goal of the season.
The third goal of the match was a result of brilliant teamwork, Maria Garcia crossed the ball perfectly, allowing Woodward to execute a skillful header to find the back of the net. The scoreboard now read 3-0, solidifying the Bobcats lead against the Warriors.
The statistics also favored St. Thomas, with 19 shots compared to Webber International's three. St. Thomas made 4 corner kicks, while Webber International managed 2. STU emerged as the clear winner with a final score of 3-0, bringing their overall record to 9-2-2 and conference record to 6-2-2.
The Bobcats will head to Hardeeville, SC to face #5SCAD-Savannah for the second time this season on Wednesday, October 18th at 7 p.m.
