Tolcachier's Lone Goal Gives STU the Edge Over the Warriors

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (October 14, 2023)- The St. Thomas University (STU) Men's Soccer team defeated the Webber International Warriors by a score of 1-0. The Warriors played the Bobcats tough, but in the end STU would find a way in a hard fought match.
 
 
The game began with both teams showing their intent to attack. The Bobcats initiated an early offensive move, but their efforts were thwarted by an offside call against Webber International at 7:46. Foul play was prevalent, with several fouls being called on both teams during the early minutes of the game. St. Thomas kept the pressure on, with Amit Fletchmann attempting a high shot at the 18:02 mark, and Benjamin Stein's shot being blocked at 20:26. St. Thomas earned a corner kick at 20:33, but their efforts couldn't find the mark.
 
At the 22:44 mark, Benjamin Stein attempted another shot for STU, this time wide to the right. Shortly after, the Warriors made their first substitution, bringing in Alex Tarway for Jesus Sanchez. Despite the substitutions, fouls continued to disrupt the flow of the game. St. Thomas made some strategic substitutions of their own, bringing in Osaghae Oghogho and others, but their shots continued to miss the target. Webber International had their moments as well, with Ruben Marquez forcing a save from St. Thomas' goalkeeper, Franco Acerbi.
 
The first half ended with St. Thomas being caught offside at the 45:00 mark, and the teams headed into the break tied at 0-0. The second half started with the Warriors receiving a yellow card for Emanuel Barajas at 46:29. St. Thomas continued to apply pressure, with Hernando Suarez's shot being saved by Webber International's goalie, Ben Parkinson, at 48:04. More yellow cards were issued, with Rafael Cagnin receiving one for Webber International at 49:32, and Angelo Bernandes earning a yellow card for St. Thomas at 61:09. Substitutions were frequent, with both teams making changes to their lineups.
 
In the 76th minute, St. Thomas finally broke the deadlock. Noah Tolcachier scored the first goal of the match, assisted by Guido Cacciabue, putting St. Thomas in the lead with a score of 1-0. Webber received a yellow card for their team at 80:39, and Tomas Persico of St. Thomas was shown a yellow card at 81:15. The game continued to be physical, with fouls on both sides.
 
As the match drew to a close, St. Thomas made more substitutions and tried to secure their lead. The game ended with St. Thomas emerging victorious, with a final score of 1-0. Despite the numerous fouls and cards, it was an exciting game of soccer, and St. Thomas walked away with the win, thanks to Noah Tolcachier's crucial goal.
