#18 Women’s Soccer Upsets Undefeated #5 SCAD-Savannah

HARDEEVILLE, SC (October 18, 2023) - The St. Thomas University (STU) Women's Soccer team burst out of the gate with a blazing start on Wednesday evening, taking an early lead to upset the undefeated #5 SCAD-Savannah. This loss handed the Bees their first loss of the season and marks the highest upset of the season.

Gabrielle Cimino wasted no time in putting her mark on the match, scoring the first goal for the Bobcats just a minute after kick-off. This marks Cimino's fifth goal of the season, keeping her in the lead for most goals of the season for the Bobcats. Cimino also notched four shots against the Bees, putting her at 61 shots overall this season.

The Bees were able to notch an equalizer shortly after the Bobcats' inaugural goal, but Natalie Woodward was quick to respond. In the 33rd minute, Natalie Woodward was able to find the back of the net for the Bobcats, putting them back in the lead. This was Woodward's third goal of the season, her first two occurring in this past Saturday's match against Webber International University. Woodward has also recorded a point in three straight contests, recording seven total this season beginning in last Wednesday's match against #13 Southeastern University

The Bees recorded 18 shots during the match compared to the Bobcats' 15. The Bobcats' Defense was able to hold SCAD to a lone goal, keeping STU in the lead for the rest of the match up. Isabella Penaranda had a standout performance, recording nine saves and tying her current career high. The highly anticipated face-off concluded with the Bobcats firmly in the lead, 2-1, leading to the upset of the season. This match bring the Bobcats to 10-2-2 overall this season and 7-2-2 in Sun Conference play.

Up next, the Bobcats will head home to host Warner University on Saturday, October 21st at Noon.
