Women's Basketball Dominates in Season Opener

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (October 26, 2023) - The St. Thomas University (STU) Women's Basketball hosted the New College of Florida on Thursday evening, kicking off their season in the Fernandez Family Center. The Bobcats dominated the game, defeating the Banyans 102-47. 

The game tipped off at 7:00 PM, with the crowd roaring in anticipation. The Banyans were eager to make a statement, but the Bobcats came out strong in the first quarter, taking an early lead with a jaw-dropping score of 27-8. Bria Brown and Brooke Bogatz, the dynamic duo of the Bobcats, were simply unstoppable sinking three-pointers and driving to the hoop with effortless finesse. Brown had an incredible 23 points, while Bogatz contributed with 22 points, including four successful three-pointers. 

As the game progressed, the Bobcats showcased their exceptional teamwork and skill. Marta Franco was the maestro, dishing out 9 assists, while Sophie Vandyke was a force on the boards with 5 rebounds. The Bobcats maintained their lead with an iron grip. 

In the final quarter, the Bobcats continued their relentless assault. Camilla Flefil's 25 points, including seven three-pointers, left the audience in awe. The Bobcats were simply on fire, shooting at an impressive 49.4% from the field. Their 102 points were a testament to their offensive prowess and dominant performance. 

The final score was a resounding 102-47 victory for the St. Thomas University Bobcats. The Bobcats kick the season off with a win under their belt and a record of 1-0. Up next, the Bobcats will participate in the SSAC/SUN Crossover Challenge, facing Brewton Parker University next Thursday in Winter Haven, Fla. at the Polk State College at 2 p.m.
